YC´s Thanksgiving celebration

Thursday 23.11.2023 some of the members of the Council got together to celebrate this year's Thanksgiving. During the evening, we enjoyed traditional American dishes, the star of the show being the roasted meat with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. As a dessert we indulged in cookies and apple pie. Besides food and drinks, we livened up the evening with several games and a trivia quiz.


Applications for new members

The U.S Ambassador's Youth Council accepts applications for new members. Are you a student or a graduate with interest in politics, diplomacy and international relations, mostly between Czech Republic and the USA? Are you considering a career in diplomacy or civil service? Do you want to fulfil your potential and participate in projects and counseling the US Ambassador in Prague? If so, we are looking for you! Council celebrates the Independence Day with a picnic

The majority of Americans spend the 4th July with their family and friends doing BBQs or picnics. Our Council joined in the celebrations and organized a picnic for our members. In the Letná park we tasted various delicacies and enjoyed playing games.


Independence Day

On 4th July the Council Board participated in annual festivities celebrating the US Independence. The traditional reception took place at the residence of His Excellency Ambassador Sabet. The historical Peček villa also hosted the Czech president Petr Pavel, who joined the celebrations and gave a speech.


Volby do rady 2023-2024

During the June plenary session, YC´s members had the opportunity to vote in the elections to the Council´s board. Based on the received votes, the director of Youth Council remains Anna Hlaváčková. The rest of the board will be made up of Hana Voběrková Radová n the position of the deputy director and Filip Čápek who will be the new chancellor.

During the October plenary session, special by-elections were held due to the vacant position of the financial manager. The composition of the board of the Council was completed by Dominik Pavlata.


Invitation to the U.S. ambassador's residence
On the 31st of May 2023, the Youth Council had the honor of attending the first formal meeting with the new U.S. ambassador Bijan Sabet in his residence in the Otto Petschka Villa, during which we presented the Council's agenda and our upcoming projects. What followed was a very interesting discussion regarding some current issues that resonate with the younger generation. 


Town Halls in Louny and Mladá Boleslav
Během února 2023 se podařilo uspořádat další dvě setkání se studenty v rámci projektu Town Halls. 14.2.2023 proběhlo setkání s politologem Martinem Nekolou na Gymnáziu Václava Hlavatého v Lounech, 23.2.2023 pak následně zavítal do Gymnázia Dr.J.Pekaře v Mladé Boleslavi.


Town Hall in Lovosice
The last meeting with students within the Town Hall project for the year 2022 was the visit of Ambassador Petr Kolář at the Lovosice gymnázium. Mr. Ambassador remembered his youth within the totalitarian times and his experiences from 17.11.1989. He also introduced the students to his experiences as a Czech diplomat. The following discussion with students was filled with questions mostly about the current situation in Ukraine.

Visiting the U.S. Embassy Prague
Youth Council was invited to the U.S. Embassy Prague in the middle of sunny July. After an inspiring debate with Chargé d'affaires Mike Dodman, there was an opportunity to visit the garden and the afternoon was concluded through a picnic at the gloriette.


Independence Day celebration at the U.S. ambassador's residence
The director and chancellor were invited to the residence of U.S. ambassador to take part in the traditional Independence Day celebration.


Town Hall Na Zatlance
Another Town Hall presentation was held 11.5.2022 at the Prague Gymnázium na Zatlance. Students were most interested in discussing the Ukrainian war and the possibilities of diplomatic and military solutions. Another topic was the role of citizens within a democracy in the context of local and global threats.


Town Hall Český Krumlov

A Town Hall series presentation took place in Český Krumlov. The students were well prepared and they were most interested in the war in Ukraine. There were also questions about the partnership between Russia, India and China.


Teambuilding in JumpPark
This time, Youth Council met in special antiskid socks and went out to enjoy a set of trampolines and other attractions in the JumpPark in Zličín.


Interviews with potential new members
In January 2022, the Youth Council board invited selected candidates for an in-person interview. Based on these interviews, the council was joined by a group of new members. In February the first meeting with the eight new members was held under strict epidemiologic rules. The debate was joined also by Chargé d'affaires Jennifer Bachus and deputy cultural attaché Todd Jurkowský.


Christmas Party
Youth Council met on 18.12. for an informal gathering, enjoying a nice walk through Prague with mulled wine. In the evening, the celebration of Christmas holidays continued in a restaurant.

The U.S Ambassador's Youth Council is currently accepting applications for new members. More details can be found here. All relevant materials are in Czech, since Czech proficiency is a membership requirement.

🩸Youth Council helps! Council volunteers decided to do their part in helping to save up to 4 lives by donating blood at Ústřední vojenská nemocnice. Thank you Anna, Daniel and Tereza. We are proud of you!

 


April 5, 2021 - Youth Council Pub quiz

Even in these strange times we use every opportunity to enjoy ourselves, so we organized our first virtual pub quiz! Easter was the perfect time to get together and test our knowledge with questions that Anna and Tereza so kindly prepared for the rest of us.

Only one team could end up on top in this competition of wits, and this time it was Jolča and Ondra. Congratulations! Two teams: Terka and Michal and Alena and Kristýna shared the second place. 

Do you know the original names of Prague’s metro stations? Which country spreads across the most time zones? And where is Končinčína?

 


December 20, 202 - Online Townhall

The last YC Town Hall of the year is over. Before starting their Christmas holidays, students from Pražské humanitní gymnázium had a unique opportunity to debate with general Petr Pavel and former ambassador Petr Kolář.

During their virtual meeting, the students examined topics concerning international security and the challenges of today's world. They also discussed the resilience of society in the times of the coronavirus pandemic. We thank all participants for the intriguing discussion and time well spent.

It was an honor to have the chance to spend the evening debating with Griffin Rozell,the spokesperson of U.S. Embassy Prague!We try to stay active even during those hard times and we enjoy and appreciate every opportunity to do so.
